Sleep is the best meditation - Dalai Lama
Some may think it’s heresy to say so, but sleep is as important as exercise, if not more so.
The long term affects of sleep deprivation are real and in our culture it is insidious. Sleep deprivation exhausts our central nervous system and brain. When that happens it drains your mental abilities and puts your physical health at real risk. Science has linked poor slumber with a number of health problems, including:
weight gain,
a weakened immune system,
trouble thinking and concentrating,
high blood pressure, risk of diabetes,
low sex drive,
memory loss, and
poor balance.
Yoga is a great tool for balancing the nervous system and inviting our body and mind into a resting state so it can replenish itself. Using restorative, longer held poses and breathing practices can be incredibly helpful in supporting a good night’s sleep. Yoga also invites a deeper level of self reflection that can help you recognize and release habits and beliefs that inhibit you from getting the rest you need.
This virtual workshop will offer you knowledge and understanding about the importance of and functionality of sleep, exercises to determine what’s getting in the way of consistent sleep for you, and practices to encouraging more ease in falling and staying asleep. Cost: $25.
