Winter 2024: Yin Yoga Classes at Harmonia Salon

Yin yoga is a deeply nourishing and quiet practice. Unlike restorative yoga, we create gentle edges of sensation in each pose to draw energy towards places that can experience stagnation and depletion. We hold seated and lying postures for several minutes, applying a gentle stress to the deeper tissues of our body to hydrate them and encourage smooth energy flows. Yin yoga is very calming and helps to regulate your nervous system. It’s great for your joints as well.

This winter I will be hosting 5 yin yoga classes at the beautiful and welcoming Harmonia salon in Bristol, Vermont. It is a space space so participation is limited to 7 and registration is required.

Classes will be held on the following Sundays from 10:00AM - 11:15AM:

January 7th and 21st

February 11th and 25th

March 17th

Cost is $17/class or purchase a package for all 5 classes and save $15.

On the Cusp: Ayurvedic Cooking in Seasonal Transition

Ayurveda is a health care system that follows the cycles of nature as a way to stay healthy. During winter, the predominant elements building in our bodies and minds are water and earth. As it starts to warm up, this accumulation begins to liquefy and move, making us more susceptible to colds and allergies. Seasonal transitions also activate more air and ether elements which are responsible for movement, circulation, and the health of our nervous system. Join Jen Peterson for a discussion and exploration of the 6 tastes in Ayurveda and how we can nourish ourselves with specific food to help detoxify our channels and calm the nervous system and feel fantastic on the cusp of Spring.

Jen Peterson is an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, experienced Yoga Teacher, and Reiki Practitioner living in Bristol, VT. Her business, Yoga Grace offers individual sessions, group classes, and workshops using the powerful tools of Yoga and Ayurveda to help you heal yourself and thrive.

Advance registration is required. Please register at least one week in advance. Classes are capped at 12 participants. Enrollment is first-come, first-served. All classes are $30, or FREE for members of the Co-op’s Food For All Program. To register, email Denise at the Hannaford Career Center (dsenesac@pahcc.org) or call (802) 382-1004.

NOURISH: Letting Go of the Rules and Feeding Yourself

Sunday, January 29th

Online Event

Everything we take in through all of our senses is an opportunity to nourish ourselves. It is also true that everything we take in is digested and turned into us. So it makes sense that what we think and feel about what we are taking in plays as much a role in how well we nourish ourselves as the "food" itself. Applying a morality towards ourselves and our food choices as good or bad inhibits digestion and can lead to poor absorption and the accumulation of toxic waste in our tissues—not to mention ongoing mental and emotional stress which takes its own toll on our health.

Ayurveda is a system of living that orients us towards harmony and balance. It can also be viewed as having lots of diet “rules”. Join me for an exploration of how the foundational principles of Ayurveda can be a path to freedom rather than restriction. Discussion will include ways to avoid using even Ayurveda as a tool for disordered eating.

My hope is that this will be a launching event to create a community of support around liberating ourselves from the destructive patterns of dieting and perfectionism and trusting our own innate knowledge of what we need to be nourished.

Cost: $37

The Yoga of Sleep

Some may think it’s heresy to say so, but sleep is as important as exercise, if not more so. The long term affects of sleep deprivation are real and in our culture it is insidious. Sleep deprivation exhausts our central nervous system and brain. When that happens it drains your mental abilities and puts your physical health at real risk. Yoga is a great tool for balancing the nervous system and inviting our body and mind into a resting state so it can replenish itself. This virtual workshop will offer you knowledge and understanding about the importance of and functionality of sleep, exercises to determine what’s getting in the way of consistent sleep for you, and practices to encouraging more ease in falling and staying asleep. Cost: $25.
